One of the oldest cities in the world, Delhi is also one of the largest. Delhi is a potpourri of cultures, traditions, architecture and human diversity. Old Delhi has got some of its landmark monuments such as Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Jama Masjid, from the Mughal rulers. Wander in the winding lanes of Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi and shop for spices, traditional apparel, colourful glass bangles, silver trinkets and intricate gold jewellery. Emerge into the leafy avenues of Central Delhi, dotted with works of Mughal and Victorian architecture, sprawling old mansions and the famous India Gate. The best way to relish New Delhi is not to try to unravel its idiosyncrasies but enjoy the cultural layer it offers.

New Delhi has an extreme climate, with very hot summers and very cold winters. Add to that, a wet monsoon stretching from the end of June till September. Thus the climactic variations make Delhi weather disagreeable and the city almost inhospitable from April until September. The best time to visit Delhi is winter when the flowers and trees are in full bloom. Between December and January, Delhi can get very cold and is known to be covered with thick fog, which can delay flights and trains.
